Another Saturday and another club meet!
This week saw Matt’s Imperial Guard take on Sam’s Dark Eldar in a follow on from the previous weeks Defence of Pandarus 15K per side game, Lee’s Space Wolves descended on Alexanders Hive Fleet and the guys tried to take down the King in Yellow in Arkham Horror.
First up was Lee’s and Alexanders game, 2.5K per side of the Champions of Fenris vs Hive Fleet Cronus. Alexander was fielding his Scythed Hierodule, a truly monstrous beast, but as the rules are now quite old how would it hold up in the melee of 7th edition…
The game itself was a close fought thing with both forces feeling each other out and not wanting to commit too soon, when the dust finally settled the Spaces Wolves had claimed the victory but if the game had gone any longer the Wolves were likely to be wiped out.
The Hierodule is a scary critter but compared to the new generation Gargantuan Creatures (we’re looking at you Wraith Knight!) they need a substantial points reduction…
In the Arkham Horror game everything went wrong for the instigators from the outset… To be fair, we were against Hastur, The King in Yellow, The Master of Insanity.
Dave travelled to another dimension and was driven insane by the horrors there, becoming lost in time and space, Michelle took on an avatar (masque) of Hastur, the seemingly harmless “Black Man”. He promptly devoured her soul.
Jon travelled through a gate, survived the otherworldly journey, and was driven mad by a ghost who was waiting for him when he came back. By this time the city was overrun with monsters,all the shops were closed and the civilians either left or killed.
The group were helpless to stop the yellow cultists summoning their unholy Lord. Alex didn’t stand a chance, he was killed instantly. Gaz single-handedly attacked the living god, and his blows seemed to be having an effect… Then Hastur noticed the puny mortal and squished him like a bug. The end.
The last game of the night was a follow on from the week before (well, in Matt’s head at least…). The Imperial Guard were investigating an Eldar Webway portal nestled in a small forest near an abandoned mining complex, as the investigation began the Dark Eldar set upon the Guard, unfortunately for the Dark Eldar the Guard were ready.
It was a massacre as the Dark Eldar fell to the focused Guard fire, the Dark Eldar did claim a small victory by taking out the Guard Colonel as she and her Command ventures too far from the main Guard line unsupported.
Another two weeks has passed and the latest club meet has rolled around!
Tonight saw the Heroquest campaign continue, Sam’s Dark Eldar take on Lee’s Space Wolves and Sam throwing down the gauntlet to Matt’s Guard.
In the Heroquest campaign the band of adventuring Heroes made it deeper into the depths of Kellars Keep… It’s amazing seeing how many differences there are in the UK and US versions! It feels like we only got half the game!!
At some point we might have to do a comparison article, but that’ll have to wait for another day.
Back to our brave band of adventures they managed to successfully overcome the obstacles that were placed in there way. Highlights included the Dwarf failing to disarm almost every trap he came across, the Barbarian failing to exit a magically locked door (despite all the other part members walking through it in from of him) and the Barbarian one shooting what should have been a challenging and scary Chaos Sorcerer!
